Kortteliravintola Kuparitarha

At Kuparitarha, you taste a rarity from the tap and take the same beer home

Kortteliravintola Kuparitarha in Tampere is a beer bar, beer shop and event space. The selection changes all the time, and the stock keeps up.

On Friday, there is a new release from a small brewery on tap, the kind you rarely find anywhere else. By Saturday it may be gone, and that is exactly why people keep coming back to Kuparitarha. Kortteliravintola Kuparitarha in Tampere's Kyttälä district is a beer bar, a beer shop and an event space for 75 people under one roof. You can taste a beer by the pint and buy the same one from the shelf to take home. When the selection changes all the time, the taps and shelves need to be tracked closely. Solmio-kassa helps with that.

Meet Kortteliravintola Kuparitarha

"A place for drinks, conversations and good moments." That is how Kuparitarha describes itself, and it fits. People come alone, in pairs or in groups, and the service is relaxed, the way a neighbourhood bar should be.

The selection never stands still. There are 15 taps, plus a changing range of beers, ciders, long drinks, wines and seltzers in bottles and cans: classics, new releases and rarities from small breweries around the world. The house has its own products too. The Original Mosaic Lager is back with its original recipe, and you can take it home as well.

Next to the bar is a beer shop with craft brewery products and local treats, such as Chilifactory hot sauces. The lounge can be hired for training days, company wellbeing events, birthdays or your own event, for a morning, an evening or a full day. Kuparitarha also hosts its own tastings and events and handles ticket sales for events organised by others.

Kuparitarha is 100% independent and Finnish. It recently moved one block south, from Verkatehtaankatu to Otavalankatu.

The person behind it

Kuparitarha's owner. At a beer bar, the selection is the whole concept. What matters most to the owner is that the taps and shelves always have something new to taste. An interesting rarity must not run out mid-evening just because nobody noticed the last crate.

"People come here to taste something they have never had before. That means I need to know exactly what we have and what is on its way."

Where they started

On a Friday after six, the bar fills up. One customer asks what is on tap tonight, another buys six cans to take away, and a third comes to confirm Saturday's birthday booking. All of it happens at the same counter.

The hardest part was not the rush but what had to be worked out after it. With hundreds of products changing batch by batch, stock levels easily lived only in someone's memory and a notebook. Bar and shop sales had to be kept apart, and the need to reorder often became clear only once a favourite had already run out. At worst, a regular came in for the very beer that was no longer there.

What they wanted to improve

  • The stock is always what the system says it is, even when the selection changes every week.
  • Bar and beer shop sales go through the same till but stay separate in the reports.

Why Solmio

The top requirement was stock that stays up to date without manual work every evening. In Solmio-kassa, inventory management is part of the till, not a separate program. Every pint, bottle and can sold reduces the stock level as soon as the sale is recorded, whether it came from the tap, the bar fridge or the shop shelf.

When a new batch arrives, it is added to stock. Alert levels show in good time when a favourite needs reordering. Sales follow the product structure, so the reports show separately how much was sold in the bar and how much in the shop.

On the till side, Kuparitarha wanted to keep things simple. The basic till handles sales, payments and receipts, and staff learn it within a single shift.

The first evening

Moving to Otavalankatu meant everything had to work in the new space at once. On opening night, the first customers went straight to the taps, and none of them knew the till was being used for the very first time.

When a regular asked whether any of last month's rarity was left, the answer came from the till, not from a trip to the storeroom. At the end of the night, the owner could see which taps were moving, what had sold from the shop shelves and what needed ordering before the weekend.

What changed day to day

There is no more guessing about stock. Levels update with every sale, so stocktaking is a check rather than counting the whole storeroom from scratch. Orders are based on what actually sells, not on what happens to be remembered.

Bar and beer shop figures are in the same place, but separate. They show which beers people enjoy by the pint and which they would rather take home.

  • Favourites don't run out by surprise: an alert level warns before the last crate is opened
  • Answers at the bar: "is there any left?" is answered by the till, not the storeroom
  • By the pint or to take home: bar and beer shop sales stay separate in the reports
  • Stocktaking is a check: every sale updates the stock level straight away

"When the selection changes all the time, the stock has to keep up. Now it does, and my time goes into choosing beers instead of counting crates."
