AI in your POS system: how Solmio Ailo works

Author: Matti Toorikka, Head of SalesUpdated

Friday was a good day. But which sold better, the terrace or the dining room? When did the rush really start? The answer is in the reports, but digging it out takes an evening. Solmio Ailo is an AI partner built into the portal. It answers with your company's own figures and drafts the next step. This guide explains what Ailo does now and where it is heading.

Ask about sales as you would ask a colleague

Ailo reads your company's Solmio data. You can ask about sales by point of sale, product, product group, payment method, cashier, sales channel, weekday or hour. "When did we sell the most on Saturday?" and "How much did the online shop sell last month?" are ordinary questions.

The answer starts short. Then Ailo tells you which period and filters it used, so you know what the figure means. Sums, differences and shares are calculated separately with a calculator, so the figure isn't an AI estimate.

Ailo also sees the page you are on. If a report has a period or point of sale selected, the question is about that unless you ask for something else.

Ailo asks when it isn't sure

If you have three products with the same name, Ailo doesn't guess. It asks for clarification and gives the options as buttons, with the recommended one first. If a sensible default exists, Ailo answers with it and tells you which assumption it made.

At the end of an answer there are up to three follow-up questions tied to that answer. They make it easy to dig deeper.

Ailo prepares, you approve

Ailo doesn't just tell you things, it also prepares work:

  • A new product. Give the name and price. Ailo asks for what's missing and makes a confirmation card with price, VAT, product group and a free PLU code.
  • A price or name change on the product page, and a change to a point of sale's name, phone number and address.
  • An eVoucher batch. Ailo prepares the vouchers and sends them by email or WhatsApp, up to 20 at a time.
  • An online shop product description and product image when they are missing. The description is written in the shop's languages.

Every change follows the same route: Ailo prepares it, shows a confirmation card and carries it out only when you press approve. It doesn't make up missing information.

Marketing, menu and everyday texts

Ailo has its own sections for marketing, menu planning, staff matters, quotes and everyday support. They use the company profile: who you are, where you operate, who you sell to and what tone you use. That's why a draft sounds like you and not like a generic ad.

In the marketing section Ailo drafts social posts and suggests publishing times. The drafts are saved to Social posts. There you read, edit and approve them before anything is published.

Summary and goals

Ailo puts together a daily or weekly summary and suggests what to act on. On the Goals page you set a metric, a baseline and a target, and Ailo shows on request how you are doing. Open tasks show in the sidebar.

Your figures stay yours

Ailo fetches data with your permissions. It sees nothing you couldn't see yourself in the portal. Customer names, email addresses and system secrets are removed before the data reaches the AI model. Conversations aren't stored with the AI service provider.

Ailo answers how-to questions from the portal's own help articles and uses the real button names. It shows instructions only for the features you have in use.

Where Ailo is heading

This section gathers the direction Ailo is being developed in. These are ideas, not features yet. The foundation is already there: Ailo reads all sales, stock and online shop data, and every change goes through approval.

Ailo notices before you ask. Today Ailo answers when you ask. The next step is that it raises things itself. The café sells less than usual on Thursday, or a favourite product is running out before the weekend. Ailo mentions it in the morning summary and suggests what to do.

From figure to action with one approval. When Ailo spots a quiet hour, it could prepare an offer, a social post and a campaign price in the till at the same time. You look at the whole and approve it in one go.

The week planned in advance. From sales history, the weather and upcoming events, Ailo could estimate next week's rush hours. That would become a suggestion for the staff rota and purchasing.

A new channel in a chat. "Let's open a voucher shop for the summer festival." Ailo could put the shop together from your till products, write the texts, create the images and leave publishing to you.

A partner that remembers. Ailo learns which suggestions you approve and which you reject, and what followed. That way the next suggestion lands closer.

The direction is the same as in Solmio generally: all the threads in one knot. The till, online shop, stock and reports are already together. Ailo is the one that reads them all at once and tells you what follows from them.

See Ailo with your own figures

Ailo is at its best when the question is your own. In a demo we can look at what Ailo says about sales in a business like yours and what it could handle in your everyday work.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Ailo get its information?

From your company's own Solmio data: sales, products, stock, the online shop and eVouchers. It answers how-to questions from the portal's help articles. The company profile tells Ailo what kind of business you are and what tone you use.

Can Ailo change something without my permission?

No. Ailo prepares a change and shows it as a confirmation card. The change is made only when you approve it with a button. A social post isn't published from the chat; you publish it yourself.

Does Ailo see more than I do?

No. Ailo fetches data with the user's own permissions and point-of-sale restrictions. Personal data and secrets are removed before the data reaches the AI model.

Which languages does Ailo support?

Ailo answers in the portal's language: Finnish, English or Swedish.

Do I need to know how to use Ailo in a special way?

No. Ask as you would ask a colleague. If a question can be read in several ways, Ailo asks for clarification with options. At the end of an answer it suggests natural follow-up questions.
